Welcome to the Lord of the Flies independent study. 

Here is the novel packet and the vocabulary in .docx formats. If you lose your packet and can't download these, please email me whether you would prefer a .pdf or a .doc file, and I will send it to you. (Because I'm a fontaholic, I used a font I downloaded from dafont.com called High Fiber for the vocab packet. If you download the packet without High Fiber on your computer, it will change to a default font, and your spacing might be messed up. No big thing. Just wanted to warn you. If you want to maintain the spacing I created, feel free to download the font before downloading the packet.)

There are no comprehension questions included in the packet. Rather it focuses on broader ideas, like characters, themes, and symbols. If you are concerned about your comprehension of the book, here is a site with chapter-by-chapter comprehension questions. You can use them to guide your reading. Sometimes it helps to read questions in advance of reading in order to set a purpose for your reading. If you are unable to answer a question, you can reread and/or ask me.  

Explanation of vocabulary: The vocab packet is differentiated based on what you might already know. Before you read each chapter, look at that chapter's vocabulary words. (There are no words for chapter 10.) Rate your knowledge of each word before reading or looking it up. A rating of 4 means you know the word backward and forward. A rating of 1 means you have no clue what it means. Ratings of 2 and 3 fall somewhere in between. (Read the packet for exact explanation of each rating.) Whatever rating you attribute to each word determines what task you will need to do with that word. (Again, read the packet for specific tasks.) The blank spaces in the packet are for you to add a word, if you find one you don't know that I did not include.
